Fish Talk – Secure Your Stickbait

Hiya folks,

Y’know,  one of the most innovative baits to come around in the past decade or so are these stick baits, the Senko-type stick baits. And you can rig these things wacky style; you can put them on a drop shot rig; one of my favourite ways is to rig them Texas-style, where they’re totally weedless.

Now, if there’s a problem when you rig them weedless, it’s always this: The fish tend to hit on or clamp onto the back and will sometimes pull the bait right down. And so you’ll feel a bite and then you’ll reel it in and your bait’s gonna be all balled up.

Here’s how you solve that problem: Whenever you rig your baits weedless like this, just take a little tiny piece of 20-, 30-, or 40-pound test fluorocarbon or monofilament line, and then just stick it right through the eye of the hook until it’s coming out the other end. Snip it at the top, snip it at the bottom, and there is not a Bass in the country that can pull down your bait.

You get a hit and you miss it the first time, you can be confident just dropping it back that that Bass is going to eat it again.
