Fish Talk – Point of View

Hiya folks,

I want to talk today about making it easy for ourselves. And one of the ways we think we can make it easy, in terms of catching and locating fish, is saying things like “a Bass is a Bass, no matter where you find it” or “a Walleye’s a Walleye, no matter where you find it.” But the fact of the matter is all of the science shows that’s not a good way to do it.

To every fish, the lake that it’s swimming in is its world—its universe—unto itself. So Ang and Pete might be down on Lake Simcoe today fishing for Smallmouth while I’m up here on Lake of the Woods, a thousand miles away. Our fish are behaving totally differently. They have adapted to the specific structure, cover, and forage of their respective worlds. Never forget that.

Every time you go fishing, think about how the fish in this lake have adapted to its unique characteristics. And when you start doing that from the fish’s point of view, you’re gonna up your odds considerably.
