Fish Talk – Braid or Flouro

Hiya folks.

Here’s the question of the day: If you’re fishing with a drop shot rig, should you spool your reel with fluorocarbon line or braid?

Now, the jury’s still out, but most of the folks—most of the pros—these days are siding on the
fluorocarbon side. And here’s the reason why: When you spool up with a gel-spun or a braided line, they’re so good, they’re so sensitive, so non-stretch, you actually feel too much. You actually feel the fish immediately and you tend to set the hook too soon. Also, because it’s non-stretch with a braided line, most folks tend to overwork their baits.

Now, if you spool on fluorocarbon, it’s totally invisible under the water, so a fish never sees your line. The other thing is that it has a little bit of elasticity. So when that fish takes your drop shot bait, you don’t feel it immediately. You’re actually giving the fish a second or two to take it well and then you feel it and set the hook. Game on.
