Fish Talk – Fish Care

Hiya folks,

I want to talk today about a situation I guarantee almost every one of us has experienced, and that’s hooking a fish deeply—fish we want to release—and it starts to bleed as we take the hook out.

Now a fish has very, very little blood inside it, so you want to cauterize that wound to get the blood stopped if you want to release that fish.

But how do you cauterize the wound? How do you stop that fish from losing its blood?

This you will not believe, but the answer is soda pop! If you snap open a can of soda pop and pour it quickly over the wound it’s called vasoconstriction. The carbon dioxide—the fizz inside soda pop—automatically cauterizes the wound and stops the fish from bleeding.
