Did You Know? – Kawartha Lakes

Did you know that the Kawartha Lakes, aside from being some of the most beautiful recreational areas in the province, are links in a chain of lakes and rivers that join Lake Ontario with Georgian Bay?

This chain was the result of the Trent Severn Waterway which was completed in 1920. The locks and dams that were built enlarged the lakes and rivers, creating ideal structure and cover for some of the best game fish in the world.

The variety of bottom structure north to south is an ideal habitat for many species, including Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, muskie, all sorts of panfish, and even some Pike.
For fishermen of all stripes, this system of lakes, rivers and waterways is pure gold.
