At a recent Sail appearance, Angelo and Pete met a few members of the OFCD (Ontario Fishing Club of the Deaf) and wow, were they taken by the enthusiasm of this hard core group of anglers. President Mark Pattenden was showing the boys all the great fish he’s documented on his camera-phone and as per Ang & Pete, there were loads of fish images.

The OFCD was founded in 1986 and is still going strong. Each year they put together a get-together which of course includes fishing as part of the festivities. Their last event in 2011 was held in Napanee and Mark said it was a huge success.

Mark says that their annual event helps the deaf community keep in touch with each other.

Fish'n Canada

The Fish’n Canada Show first aired in 1986 with phenomenal success. In 1988 the program went coast to coast on CBC, the first North American weekly fishing show to broadcast on a national network. In 1992 the show went into syndication adding Global Television Network, prominent CTV and affiliates, and several cable networks. The move resulted in unprecedented fishing audiences. With the addition of WFN U.S. and The Sportsman Chanel Canada today the Fish’n Canada show dominates the airwaves with a national weekly reach of 3.5 million and ama of over 450,000 easily making it one of the most-watched “outdoors” programs in North America.
