Thanks Thanksgiving
I finally got a day on the water after a long drought with my oldest fishing buddy of all time (aside from my dad of course) Mike “Burly” Burriss this past holiday weekend. Mike and I have been fishing together for over 30 years and I know I’ve enjoyed every minute of them.
When I called him on the phone to see if we could get together he instantly was in which is great since usually one of us has something on! He asked me what I wanted to fish for and I sternly told him that Largemouth was the choice, with no questions or alternatives. No arm twisting was needed for Burly, he loves Buckets too!
On Thanksgiving Monday we decided to take a trip into Hay Bay and go Bass fishing. As soon as we got there and were just setting up, the wife called to “just say good morning”; normally this is nice but when Mike just missed a fish on a buzzbait and then caught one 2 casts later it was “later” to the wife in a real hurry! We fished in less than 3 feet of water the whole day and ended up catching 39 Largemouth and probably another dozen to 20 Pike (we missed another 50 plus Pike & Bass hits too). All were caught on Buzzbaits, Flappin’ Shads, Jig & Pigs, Senkos and Spinnerbaits. We basically threw everything at them and they bit. The water temp was a beautiful 66 degrees Fahrenheit which is great for October. On the way home we even stopped and caught a feed of Jumbo Perch… BONUS!!!
To those of you who put your bass rods away in early fall… shame on you. It’s my favourite time to go Hawg huntin’!
